John 8:31–36 (Listen)

The Truth Will Set You Free

31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”

34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave1 to sin. 35 The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Hymn: TLH 465: Christ Is Our Corner-Stone

Hymnary.org Organ Audio

1. Christ is our Corner-Stone,
On Him alone we build;
With His true saints alone
The courts of heaven are filled.
On His great love
Our hopes we place
Of present grace
And joys above.

2. Oh, then, with hymns of praise
These hallowed courts shall ring;
Our voices we will raise
The three in One to sing
And thus proclaim
In joyful song,
Both loud and long.
That glorious name.

3. Here, gracious God, do Thou
Forevermore draw nigh;
Accept each faithful vow
And mark each suppliant sigh.
In copious shower
On all who pray
Each holy day,
Thy blessing pour.

4. Here may we gain from heaven
The grace which we implore,
And may that grace, once given,
Be with us evermore
Until that day
When all the blest
To endless rest
Are called away!
