Keyboarding
   

This course meets three times per week during the first semester of the 9th grade year. The goal of this course is to assist students to become proficient at keyboarding to help them function efficiently in a world that is becoming increasing more dependent on computers.

Students in this course use a software program call Typing Tutor 10. This program has the following features:

bulletDynamic lessons which adjust difficulty based on student skill level
bulletPractice lessons from a wide variety of sources including novels and magazines
bulletCustomizable lessons to focus on certain letters or fingers
bullet10-Key lessons to promote proficiency with the 10-key number pad
bulletExtensive graphs and reports viewable by the student
bulletEmail features which direct the student to the appropriate lesson
bulletAccess to the an Internet site of the publisher of the software, Knowledge Adventure, at which additional practice materials can be obtained
bullet8 games that encourage proper keyboarding technique to succeed   Check out the Top Game Scores
bulletInstructor mode from which the teacher can access all information for each student including Raw Words per Minute, % Accuracy and Adjusted Words per Minute

Grades are determined by Adjusted Words Per Minute (AWPM) attained on tests and daily work according to the following schedule:

For every 3 words per minute less than the requirement for a grade of A, one grade level lower will be awarded.
