Materials

bullet Textbook GEOMETRY, Third Edition, by Harold Jacobs, 2003
bullet Scientific Calculator (B, cos, sin, tan, etc.)
bullet Compass (available in Book House)
bullet Ruler - (centimeter and inches)
bullet Protractor
bullet Paper (loose-leaf or graph paper, no notebooks please)

Procedure

  1. A good share of the class time will be given to presenting the new lesson for the day.
  2. Time will also be allowed for questions on the previous day's assignment.
  3. Occasionally there will be a quiz covering material from the previous class(es) and home work assignments
  4. Homework will be corrected and collected two days after the day it was assigned. This allows you to work the problems the first night, ask questions the next day in class, finish those problems on which you had questions and hand in the assignment the third day.
  5. Several projects demonstrating geometry in the world around us will also be completed by the students.
  6. Regular work in Geometer's Sketchpad, a dynamic software program used for discovery and presentation of geometric concepts, will be done at least once or twice each chapter. You will enjoy GSP's versatility and helpfulness in learning geometry concepts.

Grading

The letter grade you earn for your report card is based upon the percentages earned in several areas of work. The areas of work will be weighted in the following way (this weighting may change as the year progresses):

bullet

class work/quizzes 5%

bullet

selected daily work 15%

bullet

Geometer's Sketchpad work 15%

bullet

projects 10%

bullet

chapter tests 40%

bullet

semester exam 15%

Your letter grades will be determined according to the following percentages:

93-100% A 80-83% B- 67-69% D+
90-92% A- 77-79% C+ 64-66% D
87-89% B+ 74-76% C 60-63% D-
84-86% B 70-73% C- 0-59% F

Attendance & Class Work

bulletAll work assigned is expected to be completed by the due date. Failure to do so will normally result in a mark of 0%.
bulletAny work not completed because of an excused absence must be submitted at the next class you are present following the absence. Failure to do so will ordinarily result in a mark of 0%. It is your responsibility to get missed assignments.
bulletAn excessive number of absences from class will jeopardize your chances of gaining credit in this class. After five absences, you should meet with the instructor to determine your standing in the class.
bulletPlease be in your seat and ready to learn when the bell rings. Failure to be seated and ready when the bell rings will be considered a tardy and must be reported to the principal. Courtesy suggests that you explain the reason for your lateness to the instructor after class.
bulletIf you need additional help beside class time, please ask. I am very willing to meet with you during your free study halls, after school, or any other time you are free. You must let me know that you are interested in additional help.
