Procedures

bulletEach class will begin with Passages to Teach By presented by one or more of the students. These passages will be chosen and presented by the student. All students will record the passage and explanation for later use.
bulletDiscussion topics will be announced prior to the class in which they will be discussed and the student is to prepare for that discussion in a variety of ways including research and personal interview. This preparation material is to be saved in a shared network folder at the following path: Server-d/ILCUsers/Ed102.
bulletEach topic will be discussed in class and the student will prepare a summary or position paper that demonstrates his understandings of the class discussion. This summary or position paper will also be saved in the shared folder mentioned above.
bulletA booklet will be produced by each student. The booklet will contain all of the summaries and position papers prepared by the student as well as the Passages to Teach By.

Grading

Grades for the semester will be determined as follows:

10%    Class presentation of Passages to Teach By

20%    Preparation for and participation in class discussions

60%    Completion of summaries and position papers

10%    Completion of booklet containing all papers and Passages to Teach By

The following scale will be used for determining semester grades:

94-100% A 74-79% C
90-93% A- 70-73% C-
87-93% B+ 67-69% D+
84-86% B 64-66% D
80-83% B- 60-63% D-
77-79% C+ 0-59% F

Absences and Tardiness

bulletAttendance is necessary and required in Ed 102 due to the fact that the benefits of the course will come from preparation of papers based on classroom discussion. If absences become frequent for any reason, your success in the class will suffer. The instructor will meet with you to discuss your status in the class.
bulletIf you are absent from a class or tardy, present your excuse to the instructor at the next possible opportunity. Your absence/tardy will not be excused until you do so. Excuses will not be accepted beyond one week after an absence.
bulletAn absence or tardy that is not excused is considered unexcused and any work due on that day will receive a grade of 0%.
bulletIn regard to tardiness, don't be! A teacher can not be late for school. Two unexcused tardies will constitute an unexcused absence and will result in a grade of 0% for the day of the second unexcused tardy.
bulletAssigned work will ordinarily not be accepted after the day it is due. A score of 0% is given for work not submitted on the day it is due. A teacher must be prepared to meet a deadline. There are no second chances.
bulletIf you are ill the day an assignment is due, be sure the assignment is saved in your folder, or you will need to send the assignment to class with someone. When teachers are ill, they still need to have lesson plans prepared for substitutes.
bulletIf you are hospitalized or have had an incapacitating injury you need to contact the instructor for an extension prior to the due date for a particular assignment. There are circumstances that do prevent teachers from continuing in their call. They are excused by God and man alike.
bulletThis policy is intended to accustom the student to the rigor of the teaching ministry.
