Attendance

Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes as well as any extra local teaching experiences as required. Any absence from a class or teaching experience shall be explained by the student to the instructor who shall determine whether the absence will be excused or unexcused.

Excused Absences

    1. An absence deemed excused by the instructor, carries no penalty. Any student missing an inordinate amount of class periods will find it difficult to meet the objectives of that course. Should a student miss three class periods, he should discuss  his status in the course with the instructor. The student's status for the course will be determined by the instructor. The grade might range from a normal letter grade to an "I" Incomplete. An "I" must be converted to a letter grade within two weeks of the completion of the course or the grade reverts to a letter grade reflecting work actually submitted.
    2. Please make it a point to find out from either a classmate or the instructor what you missed during an absence. No student is excused from any portion of the course work. Any work missed because of excused absences is to be completed by the next meeting of that class. Failure to do so will normally result in a mark of 0% for that assignment.
    3. An anticipated absence should be reported to the instructor prior to the absence.

Unexcused absences

Any absence deemed unexcused by the instructor will result in the following actions:

      1. Any tests, quizzes, class presentations, or homework missed will be given a grade of 0. This could possibly mean several marks of 0 in one class. Replacement assignments may by issued, as well.
      2. One unexcused absence will also result in a lowering of the semester grade by one letter grade. (ex. B to B-)
      3. A second unexcused absence will also result in a lowering of the semester grade by two letter grades. (ex. B to C+)
      4. A third unexcused absence will result in failure of the course, and a grade of F received.

Tardiness

    1. Arrival after the bell signaling the beginning of class, without an appropriate explanation, is considered a tardy. Any student who is tardy should meet with the instructor immediately following the class with an explanation. Failure to do so will result in an unexcused tardy and handled as below.
    2. Three unexcused tardies will be considered an unexcused absence and handled as stated above.
